When the media contributes to and reinforces stereotypes about older workers being hard to manage and slow to adapt to new technologies, this paints older workers in a negative light. By doing so, responsiveness by viewers to negative news coverage usually tends to grab more attention. Some of these viewers may be CEOs or executive board members of large corporations or organizations. These individuals may, in turn, be more reserved when hiring older individuals because the media misrepresented an entire group.
